Contents (Inhoud / Omschrijving)
The emergence of (post)modern media culture has made many commentators worry: this culture is seen as superficial, sensationalist, immoral and relativistic. When the issue becomes the representation of sexuality in contemporary media culture, these worries seem to become even stronger. In this course we discuss various developments in the representation of sexuality in contemporary media culture and their interpretation and evaluation by scholars of the media and sexuality. Are we living in the age of an immoral and dangerous ‘pornification' of media culture or an age in which access to the innocent pleasures of (representations of) sexuality is finally open to all?
