Objectives (Doelstelling)
Knowledge: Students obtain detailed knowledge and insight in advanced research methods, models and/or computer programs for comparative empirical research not covered by the courses offered by the research master program.
Skills: Students can apply their knowledge and understanding of these research methods, models and/or computer programs in their comparative empirical research.
Attitudes: Students are able to undertake individual study of advanced subjects with a high degree of autonomy. They obtain a healthy critical attitude toward the application of these subjects, the assumptions underlying them and the obtained empirical results.
Contents (Inhoud / Omschrijving)

The completion of the MSc thesis involves conducting a comparative empirical study, where research master students analyse primary and/or secondary qualitative and/or quantitative data to investigate their master thesis topic. Appropriate analysis of these data may require the application of advanced research methods, models and/or computer software programs not covered in the research skills sequence offered by the courses of the research master program. In such cases students are given the opportunity for guided individual study of advanced subjects related to their thesis under the supervision of a qualified staff. The content is arranged to suit the particular requirement of the individual student and interested senior members of the faculty staff. Students prepare a plan for individual study including learning goals, content and study load expressed in EC in cooperation with the staff. The guided individual study requires permission of the Examination Board. Before granting permission, the examination board will evaluate the content and work load of the study plan.
