The course will take place in  weekly sessions of 2 hours starting in the period September-November 2012.

Language of instruction: English.

Pre-requisites
DUTCH STUDENTS: The course is compulsory for students of International and European Law
    Preliminary courses and minimum of ECs required for attending this course and being admitted to the exam. ECs: 40 EC's of first year courses

     

     

FOREIGN EXCHANGE (LAW) STUDENTS:

Objectives

The basic objectives of the course are to provide an insight into the operation of various branches of Public International Law and to prepare students more properly for the Master courses on international law.

Contents

Public international law contains a body of general principles, norms and rules created to be applicable irrespective of the subject-matter at hand, for instance the rules on treaty creation, interpretation and application and the rules on state responsibility. At the same time particular areas of concern in international relations have led to the creation of various specific branches of international law, including human rights law, environmental law, law of the sea, humanitarian law, world trade law, refugee law and international criminal law. The course aims at providing an insight into a number of specific branches of international public law examined in the light of treaty- and of the law on state responsibility.
