Contents
This course is designed to offer students detailed insights in the general principles of Insurance Contract Law. To be discussed are the Principles of European Insurance Contract Law (PEICL), some EC directives and EC Insurance Law. The course will be given, in English, from the beginning of February, until the last week of March. Attention will be paid to the following subjects in particular: 1. Introduction: a review on the key principles of Insurance Contract Law; 2. Players in the field of Insurance Law (Insurance intermediaries etc.) and an introduction to the PEICL; 3. Non-Disclosure and the duty to inform the insurer at the conclusion of the contract; 4. Causation of loss and Duties to give notice of loss and to avert or mitigate loss; 5. Aggravation of risk, aspects of evidence in Insurance law and some miscellanea; 6. The EU Insurance market: Motor insurance.

Examination
Written Exam in April 2012. In addition students are required to complete an essay during the course.

7 EC = 196 h. N.B. Bij de berekening wordt rekening gehouden met het feit dat het vak wordt aangeboden in een voor de meeste studenten vreemde taal contacturen hoorcollege: 6x2= 12 uur voorbereiding hoorcollege: 6x16= 96 uur paper: 1,5x16= 24 uur (staat gelijk aan de voorbereiding voor 1,5 hc) voorbereiding tentamen: 64 uur
