Students who enroll in the master's programme of Computing Science following a Polytechnic bachelor training ("HBO-doorstromers" or "pre-master students") are required to complete a transition programme ("schakelprogramma" or "pre-master programme") consisting of a number of bachelor courses to make up for deficiencies in their prior training. These so-called "schakelcursussen" focus on academic competences relating to the field of Computing Science and preparing for the more advanced level of the master courses. Topics include math, semantics,and programming. Being part of the bachelor programme, "schakelcursussen" are generally taught in Dutch.
The bachelor courses that HBO-doorstromers should complete depend on their prior education. The transition programme is determined following an intake procedure where the individual background of the student is taken into account. There is a standard transition programme that relates to specific education programmes that students may have attended as part of their bachelor degree. However, the exact programme for each student will be determined during the intake procedure on the basis of individual background of the student.
As from September 2012 the transition programme or pre-master programme consists of the following courses:

As becomes clear from the above listings, there is no room to take additional master courses. After completing this programme (no unsatisfactory marks allowed) a post-polytechnic bachelor student can be officially enrolled as master student. Until then a student is officially registered as a pre-master student. This is not done automatically, students need to hand over a "schakelverklaring".
Schakelverklaring
In order to change the registration, students should hand over a so-called "schakelverklaring" at the bureau of registration, showing that they have completed the courses of the transition programme. This "schakelverklaring" can be obtained from the Education office, HG00.514. The procedure for doing so is listed in the appendix. Because this procedure takes some time, and because the members of the education office are not full time available do not wait until the last minute.
